Description

Summary: a very rare Lile First Blood III, a knife model prominently featured on pages 361 through 367 (and elsewhere) in the book “James B. Lile, The Arkansas Knifesmith”.

Check out the extensive write up in the book, here’s the short version: Jimmy began making these FB III’s for past customers who had the first two movie knives. Very few were produced (the book states 7 or 8 but I think the actual number is closer to 10), I can say with some comfort that less than a dozen were completed. When Jimmy was notified that Stallone wanted to go a different direction for the third movie knife, Jimmy halted production and no more were made. Serial numbers vary as they were made for past customers, so few were produced that the serial number has never had a measurable impact on market value.

This First Blood III has a 10” sharpened edge, tip to guard measures approximately 11”. Overall length is 16-3/4”, book information has this knife weighing at approximately 2 pounds! Maybe that’s why Stallone opted for another knife: it was too heavy for him! Ha... not!

Condition: unused, gorgeous shape with nothing but minor handling marks on the brass guard and a few light scratches on the micarta handle. Easily a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10, very close to if not the cleanest First Blood III I’ve had for sale.

The sheath is original to the knife and has the Lile shop stamp on the back. There are handling scuffs on both sides – strange as it sounds, I’ve never held a Rambo III / First Blood III sheath that wasn’t all scuffed up. Still in great shape, just don’t expect a mint sheath as I don’t think a mint RIII sheath exists.

9 photos for review – as shown, a new carry case is included. This is a very collectible knife with very low production numbers, in my opinion way better looking than the ugly thing that was actually used in the 3rd movie. These knives continue to increase in value, no reason to believe that will stop anytime soon. A great one to tuck away for bragging rights and investment purposes – thanks and good luck.
