Summary: up for grabs... this is the Lile SOG #037 with fingered Mastodon ivory handle. This knife has a 7" blade stamped LILE, brass hilt and butt cap, and beautiful fingered Mastodon handle. Never used with original blade edge, the knife is in near mint condition with nothing more than light tarnish / wipe marks on the brass hardware. The fingered ivory is a thing of beauty, amazing color.

This low numbered SOG is paired with a shop-issue black Galco sheath with original eggshell colored sharpening stone in the front pouch. Lile shop stamp on the back, the sheath is in excellent+++ or better condition with just a few handling scuffs on the back.

10 photos for review – as shown, a custom Ostrich and Lizard hide carry case is included. This is a drop dead gorgeous knife, the handle color is f-ing fabulous! These ivory SOG’s are few and far between, if I see one SOG a year with any handle material I consider myself lucky. Great opportunity for the astute collector, the perfect addition to any knife collection. Thanks and good luck.

Additional Information from page 190 in the book "James B. Lile – The Arkansas Knifesmith":

S.O.G. (SPECIAL OPERATIONS GROUP) KNIFE

"S.O.G. is a highly specialized military group that was trained for covert military operations in the Southeast Asia area during 1964. At the request of a private collector in Illinois, Lile began making one hundred specially-designed combat knives designated "S.O.G." All were delivered between 1987 and 1991. The 7-inch D2 steel blade is stamped "LILE" and serial numbered. Accompanied by a black leather Galco International sheath, this knife has a brass guard and butt cap, red fiber and brass spacers, and wood grain Micarta two-finger groove handles. A limited number were done with ivory handles. The overall length is 12 inches, making it an exact copy of the original S.O.G. knife."

Footnote: "the private collector in Illinois" mentioned above refers to the late Tom Clinton – the original owner purchased this fossil ivory #037 directly from Tom. (Tom’s original “Sharp Stuff” plastic will be shipped with the knife)
