Summary: a Randall #17 Astro and riveted Johnson roughback sheath. The knife appears unused -- a few light insertion marks on the blade flats that are really only visible if you turn the knife in direct light. Definitely unused, definitely the original edge. The stainless hilt has light handling marks and a few dings, nothing major. Micarta slabs look great -- the screws have been out at some point but no big deal. Overall, the knife is easily an 8 or better on a scale of 1 to 10.

The riveted Johnson roughback sheath is in great shape, I picked some verdigris from around the rivets. Overall excellent condition, you'll find scuffs on the front, and darkness at the throat and on the keeper strap from past knife storage. All stitching solid, an unused yellow print Crystolon stone is in the front pouch.

7 photos for review -- as shown, an embroidered Randall Knives carry case is included. These 17's are interesting survival knives with the hollow area inside the handle – a great price on this one with the riveted sheath. I’m not entirely sure that the knife and sheath are original to one another, typically the Astro’s with riveted sheaths had the thin guards or rounded butt’s. I don’t know when RMK transitioned from the round butts to this specific generation of handle, no one was able to pin down the dating on the over on the Randall Forum when I posted a photo. So, a bit of caveat emptor here... the sheath may very well a bit older than the knife. That said, factor in all the parts (knife, riveted sheath, crystolon, etc.) and you’re still getting one hell of a good deal. Thanks and good luck.
